Danny Keen

Danny Keen is one of the ‘Windrush Generation’ of West Indian immigrants who came to England after the Second World War.

He studied fine art at the Central School in London, and then catering at Westminster Catering College, working at night to support his studies. He started his first catering business in the early 1970s, eventually owning catering ventures that included catering contracting, restaurants, hotels and a jazz bar. He then moved into ethical commerce, running a care home for people with learning difficulties and a home for young people leaving care.

As a youngster he took up wrestling and then judo. He was the senior judo coach at Sheringham Judo Club for almost ten years, and trained several young people to British national championship titles. He has always had an interest in healing, and is a Reiki Master and a practitioner of Zen Shiatsu.

He has given up his catering career to concentrate on his first love, painting. Two exhibitions of his work - a retrospective, and recent abstract paintings - take place during 2012’s BHM.
