African Market in Norwich

  • Programme: Once again Black History Month in Norfolk kicks off with a bang with the eagerly awaited African Market. This year it's bigger and better than ever before, with traders representing, North, West, East & Southern Africa as well as the Caribbean and South America. By special request, Friday has been designated as a day of education for students, lecturers and teachers, with educational workshops and presentations throughout the day and a host of multi-cultural educational resources on display and for sale. You'll find a great atmosphere, lots of interesting folk eager to talk about the story behind their products, as well as crafts, health products, food, educational resources, gifts, clothing, even lingerie, and a lot more, all available and at great prices. There will also be great public performances from some fantastic artists.

Great Yarmouth BHM Launch / African market

Black Hair Care Workshop

  • Date: Sunday 5 October 2008, 10 AM–4:30 PM
  • Venue: Method Hair Salon, Labour in Vain Yard (opposite the Guildhall), Norwich
  • Price: £12 registration fee for adults, £6 children (under 16). Entry for children under 5 is free. Booking necessary as places are limited.
  • Programme: Whether you are Black, White or of Mixed Heritage, a parent, a carer, a hair care professional or an aspiring amateur, you'll be inspired by this hands-on workshop. The workshop will be led by Sharon Grey of Silhouettes Hair Salon in London, who, with over 20 years' experience, will explain everything from basic to advanced hair care and styling. There will also be live demonstrations, an open question and answer session, and a complimentary gift bag worth over £30.

First Sunday: Mask Printing

A Taste of BHM

  • Programme: The Colleges will be hosting this event for their students as part of their community engagement. The event will consist of three different activities, led by Rainbow Nations, Capoeira Senzala and Jankie'D, all of which aim to give students a taste of different cultures and traditions. Rainbow Nations will encourage students to explore similarities and differences between people and discuss social and moral dilemmas. Capoeira Senzala, with their particular form of dance using African rhythms and musical fusions, will teach students about this fascinating African/Brazilian tradition. Jankie'D will invite the students to make Carnival costumes. The costumes will consist of a Head-dress, Collar, Skirt and Accessories. All techniques will be expertly demonstrated by a team of practitioners with over 40 years experience in Carnival costume-making!

Dilemmas in Diversity Conference

Who Do You Think You Are? BME Family History for Beginners

Dealing with Diversity & Equalities
