    Althea McNish

Hull Traders was a visionary post-war textile company spearheaded by award-winning designer Shirley Craven. Curated by leading design historian, Lesley Jackson, this ground-breaking touring exhibition showcases the bold abstracts in eye-popping colours capturing all the exuberance of the swinging sixties including designs by established artists Eduardo Paolozzi, Ivon Hitchens and young designers such as Althea McNish.

Althea is a Trinidad-born artist who came to Britain in 1951, attended the Royal College of Art and became the first black designer in the British textile industry.

The symposium offers a unique opportunity to hear Althea in conversation with her husband John Weiss.
