A Jon Ward lecture: From Paul Robeson to Samuel L. Jackson: Tracing Hollywood representations of African American men.

This lecture examines the depiction of African American men in Hollywood films throughout the twentieth century, asking whether the representation of black men has changed over the course of time and ultimately, in the current context of ‘post-racial’ America, if representations of black manhood are important.

    Followed by Café Conversation:

Do African American actors have a responsibility to only represent black identity in ‘positive’ ways?

The Café Conversation will take place in Café Bar Marzano in The Forum 15 minutes after the lecture ends. Tea and coffee will be provided.
