    Rebecca Fraser lecture: Unsung Heroes of the Williams’ Plantation.

    The Williams family were slaveholders in the nineteenth century American South, originally in North Carolina and from there migrating to Georgia.

    This lecture focuses on the Williams’ enslaved populations, reflecting on particular individuals and the ways in which they negotiated slavery to define their own freedoms, both from within the context of the slave system and following emancipation in 1865.

    How has the US responded to its histories of African enslavement?

    The Café Conversation will take place in Café Bar Marzano in The Forum 15 minutes after the lecture ends. Tea and coffee will be provided.
